Cystoscopy is a test that examines the inside of your bladder, urethra and prostate with a lighted, flexible, tube-like telescope. It can be done in the clinic or in the hospital. A numbing jelly is used, and the procedure is only mildly uncomfortable. No special preparation is needed if this is done in the clinic. The average procedure itself takes only minutes, but the preparation, numbing and instrument set-up can take 15-20 minutes. There are no restrictions after the procedure. Some people may experience a slight burning upon urination or blood in the urine for a day or so afterwards.
